, /PRNewswire/ -- Fathom Therapeutics, a company that uses quantum chemistry and AI to design novel drug molecules by predicting their behavior inside living cells, today announced the appointment of Bret Williams, Ph.D., as Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Williams will lead the advancement of novel molecules designed by the company's Microcosmos platform into a portfolio of therapeutic programs for both its internal pipeline and partnerships.

The appointment follows Fathom Therapeutics' $55 million Series A financing in May 2026, led by Sutter Hill Ventures with participation from Lilly Ventures, among others.

"Fueled by our recent financing, Fathom Therapeutics is entering a period of translational focus as we transform insights from our Microcosmos platform into medicines," said Huafeng Xu, Ph.D., Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Fathom Therapeutics. "Bret brings a deep understanding of the science behind our platform, experience applying AI to drug discovery, and a record of advancing molecules from target identification into clinical development. Bringing on Bret as CSO is a significant step forward in realizing the potential of our technology to design small molecule medicines that previously seemed impossible."

Dr. Williams added, "Fathom Therapeutics was founded by the pioneers in simulating protein-drug interactions, who have now built a platform that most accurately captures how proteins move and behave inside living cells. This deeper understanding of protein dynamics is already generating highly potent and selective candidates against targets previously considered undruggable, at a speed never before seen in the field. With novel molecules designed by the Microcosmos platform ready to move into programs, I'm excited to join the team as we advance the most promising candidates into programs and build a portfolio of medicines."

Dr. Williams brings more than 20 years of drug discovery and translational research experience to Fathom Therapeutics. He joins from Magnet Biomedicine, where he most recently served as senior vice president and head of research. Previously, he held leadership positions at Relay Therapeutics, where he led target identification and drug discovery efforts, and Sanofi, where he led a lab in target and molecular discovery. His expertise spans target identification and validation, biomarker development, preclinical and clinical development, and the application of AI/ML to drug discovery, with a focus on precision medicine in oncology, autoimmune and rare diseases. Dr. Williams completed his postdoctoral fellowship at MIT and earned his Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

About Fathom Therapeutics

Fathom Therapeutics is a drug design company that uses physics-based simulations and AI to model protein motion and interactions at atomic resolution. Its Microcosmos platform simulates protein dynamics, producing the data needed to design small molecules with differentiated therapeutic effects and reduced off-target risk. The company has an active internal pipeline and discovery partnerships. Fathom Therapeutics was founded by the team behind the Anton supercomputer and the most widely used software for predicting protein-drug binding. The company is headquartered in New York, with a second office in Boston.
